surban

noun | sur·ban | \ˈsər-bən\

Definition: A suburban area that has the feel of urban, with walkability to great retail from a house or apartment

Nope, its not a typo.  This is new term used to describe one of the hottest trends in housing.   The term was coined in the book "Big Shifts Ahead" by John Burns.

About three years ago I started to notice a trend.  When I asked a client where they wanted to move once we sold their home they frequently said "we want to move closer to the Square" or "we want to move to downtown Woodstock" or "we love the downtown Roswell area".  They expressed the desire to have a smaller home that took less effort to maintain, they want to be able to walk to restaurants, shops and local entertainment, they are looking for shorter commutes and a generally more social lifestyle.

Moving to "live, work, play" communities is a hot trend that is sweeping the nation.  Unfortunately, with the rising cost of housing in large urban cities, the live, work, play life style is out of financial reach for many homeowners.

Hence the birth of the "Surban" communities.  Muture subdivision areas have taken notice of the urban revitalization and have worked to create a vibrant mix of housing, restaurants, cultural activities.  etc...

The City of Marietta has done a fantastic job of creating a fun place to live.  This includes trendy restaurants, farmer's market, art walk, and retail shops.  Check out the exciting events in and around the Marietta area.

Developers are also jumping on board to create beautiful housing communities.  As local Realtors we are frequently asked what are the housing options in, and around the Marietta Square.

Thankfully, The City of Marietta provided a comprehensive map showing all the current new developments in and around the Square.  We took it a step further and created hot links below the map that take you directly to a list of available homes for sale.

If you are interested in obtaining more information about any of the communities please contact us at 678-631-1812.  Our office is located right in the center of all the action on the Marietta Square.  We are intimately familiar with these communities and the growth and development of our beautiful city.
